I have a 99 Navigator and am experiencing a shuddering noise while turning. It has the Limited Slip Diff, and was curious if that could be causing the noise I'm hearing? It seems to do this mainly at low speeds when I'm not turning the wheel a whole lot. I notice it when going around a traffic circle for example, not when in a sharp 90 degree turn. Any help and/or cost estimates would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 99 expy with the liited slip diff. I asked the same question here a couple months ago. Have seen many post on this subject.
Shuddering is a good description! I called it a grinding noise coming from rearend when turning from a stop. I was advised to go to the dealership parts department and purchase the additive for the rearend. Did! Used my 1/2" drive ratchet to remove the rearend plug to add the additive. After about 100 miles ( I noticed right away that this was going to make a difference at leats), the noise went away completely. Seeing this noise dissappear was a great satisfaction to my wallet. The aditive was only $5.95
Try it first! I've heard stories of diffrentials being rebuilt to new rearend installation. $1500-$3500. ouch
Ido not recall the exact name. I went in and asked for the "oil additive for the rearend". The guy in the parts department knew exactly what I was talking about, brought it to the counter with an easy pour tip/nozzle tha came with it. Be sure to get this tip. It makes for easy insertion in the rearend fill hole.
