What Axles

I have read through numerous posts concerning the Limited Slip that come in the SD. I had a problem the other day getting stuck on the shoulder of the road while making a U-turn. Anyhow I want to put in a locker of some sort, but I have no clue what Axles are in these trucks. If someone can provide me some information it would be greatly appreciated. Also want to know the ring gear size as some sites go off that. Oh yeah, it is a 2005 F250 FX4 PSD Auto. Thanks in advance.

Not baggin' on ya, just curious: How in the heck did you get stuck on a shoulder while doing a U-Turn with a 4WD PSD??? And why do you now feel like you need a locker rear to cure the problem? To me, it's kinda like getting a fly in the house and eliminating it by shooting it with a shotgun! Are you sure you didn't just use bad judgement while making your U-Turn? It's easy to do, and we've ALL done it (some of us more than once! LOL ) and it's ok to admit it

Maybe instead of dropping $$$ on a locker, you could just avoid doing U-turns on shoulders in the future? Just a thought... but I am curious how you got stuck?

Again, I'm not baggin' on ya... it just struck me as overkill.

Best,
Daryl

my 05 250 has a 10.5 inch ford rear and a dana 60 front. spring time and u turns on soft shoulders are no no's as are dirt parking lots. yes how did you do it? if you have a ls already a locker will not help any. mud is mud man sink to the hubs call a wreaker nothing else will help you need to winch it out.
don't be sorry for your self . i've done it with a simi and a 4x4 the red face goes away.

Doesn't everyone shoot flys with the shotgun???? Believe me I take no offense to your comments, I find it funny myself. How I got stuck on the shoulder of the road is beyond me maybe it had a lot to do with the recent rains we have had here . Anyhow my getting stuck is only part of the reason for the locker question coming up. I have been thinking about one since I bought the truck last year but it slipped my mind until the other day. Anyhow to answer the "why do I think I need a locker" question. I have plans on taking my truck to a cabin in the mountains to do some fishing and the terrain isn't exactly forgiving (big rocks and ruts) and having traction at all 4 wheels will be beneficial. Not to mention AAA doesn't like to pull you out when on the trail.

Glad you weren't offended, as it was intended humorously. Now I see why you are interested in the locker. And yep, AAA doesn't exactly respond like lightning when you're stuck in the hinterlands up some dirt road!

Good luck in your search,
Daryl

As was mentioned Dana 60 front and Visteon 10.5" rear (most gear places refer to it as the Ford 10.5"). Detroits and ARBs are available for both. I believe the Electrac is available for the Dana 60 as well.

I have been looking at the Eaton Electronic Locker and the Air Locker, but have not yet made any decisions as to which I will get. Any good info would definitely be well received.

I'm fairly certain Eaton doesn't offer an e-locker for either axle yet. Although, it looks as though tractech offers an electrac for the front and should have one for the rear soon? Looking at a couple lists here, it looks like the front part number is either 915A510S or 915A510D. The "S" stands for shallow cover and "D" stands for deep cover. One list says you need the shallow cover and the other says you need the deep cover.
Now for the rear, my one list has a part number for the rear but the other does not. So, I'm guessing if it's not out yet, it will be soon and the number for it will be 915A493.
I'd personally love to have the electrac for the rear and the eaton e-locker for the front since the electrac is a limited slip/locker and the e-locker is open/locker. That would be an awesome combination.

in my 95 f150 i put a locker in the rear and a dana ls unit up front works great with manual hubs. the locker is a bit harsh on turns on the dry highway but in mud and dirt it can't be beat. for what you propose i would go with a air locker in the rear and a stock dana ls up front . good luck man stay off the shoulders in the spring.

granted the factory limited slip is pretty bad, but so are the tires. a good set of tires will help and will cost less.
just my thoughts
