Dana 70 hub q?

I'm getting ready to rip into the brake drums on my Dana 70 in my F250 to check the brakes and replace the ebrake cables.

question is-

What kind of / size of hub socket is it? My F250 is 45minutes away, so I can't really just pop in and look. The guy at napa tried to sell me one for a racheting lock nut (the newer sterlings) but I know Danas have a hex nut. I got a 2-9/16" one, which happened to fit the axle locknut for a 90s E350 (I think they used Dana 60s and 70s until recently?)..

hopefully, I got the right one (of course, it is a 3/4" drive )..

btw, what is the torqueing procedure for they, anyways?

Thats the right one; 2-9/16 hex.

Torque procedure is "damn tight" then back off a 1/4 turn. I'll see what the exact spec is when I get out to the garage and pull a manual.

cool, I'm glad I got the right socket.. btw, is your socket a 3/4" drive or 1/2"? Damn tight with a 3/4" ratchet must be @$%%ing tight..

Its a 3/4. Maybe I should say "damn snug". I've got a 3/4 breaker bar and I'm sure if I leaned on it hard enough I could fubar the bearing or race. Just lean on it a little untill it gives you some resistance then back it off a skosh. Oh yea...I need to go look up the actual specs. Back with an edit in a sec...

edit: okay, snug the bearing nut down to 50 ft. lbs to seat the bearing, then back it off 1/4 turn. Outer locknut to be torqued to 80-100 ft. lbs.

You've got a 3/4 drive torque wrench don't you

Nope, no 3/4" torque wrench.. I have a extra long 1/2" breaker bar that is longer than a 3/4" bar.. that will probably do

I'll have to stack a 3/4" to 1/2" adapter with my 1/2" to 3/8" to use my 3/8" torque wrench

hmm. I think my dad has a 1/2" torque wrench.. I need more friends that work on bull dozers

thanx pro.

Don't forget to compensate for the .025ft/lb that will be lost with your 3/4 to 1/2 adapter,
