I just recently replaced the 02 SD listed in my signature with basically the same truck in an 05 model.
My first impression is that this new engine is TIGHT.(No wory here as I once had a 4.6 Ford that was a low rpm dog for almost 2000 mi. and woke up quite nicely afterwards.)It is becoming more responsive with every startup.I am one who believes in not rushing an engine into lots of rpms and a heavy throttle until 1000 mi.or so.I do run'em after they are broke in.
The 02 I replaced was a very strong runner with the full Banks Power Pack and Diablo chip.
It will be interesting to see how this stock 3 valve engine compares once it loosens up a little. The overall gearing is a tad bit lower with the 4.10's and 18 in.wheels vs the 3.73's and 16 inchers.Approx 150 rpm more at 70 mph.
I used to post here and in the SD forum quite often until about 18 mos.ago.I have been lurking around the past several months though.
Just thought I'd post for for anyone who's interested.
i have 2k on mine. starting to feel better and the fuel mpg is up a bit to almost 12 from 11.4 av. i think i have read some one post about 10k or a bit more when it felt real good.
i know for a fact mine feels different with full syntec oil over the the motorcraft semi blend or what ever the dealer put in at 500 miles. but maybe i'm wrong just feels different. fred can it be so?
No it ain't so... to get any measurable effect from synthetic lubes you must bite the $150 bullet and change both pumpkins, powersteering, tranny, and the motor... an awfull lot of fairly expensive .... more prone to evaporation, lubricants.
What you are experiancing is the normal loosining of all the drive train and the motor. I am right at 9800 this week and she is getting slightly better every tankfull. Remenber to spend a little time ecah week in 4x4 hi and lo, and get some reverse miles on her.
The full synth won't hurt any thing. I just do not believe you can feel it just in the motor alone.
I live in the hot dusty, sandy southwest so it just does not make sense for me to spend more for stuff I know I must change frequently. If you live in a area where extreemly long change intervals can be done with no potential for harmfull crap to contaminate the oil then there is a great argument to be made for some of the stuff.
Captain Charlie needs to fully disclose his source and costs... I think if we all had that same deal we would be tempted to run "his brand" also... GRIN
Charlie... don't post on this public forum your secret... I was taking a cheap shot
fred i think you know shots at me bonce off. most of the time. as to my oil lets just say i work at a dealer and we use castrol, and a family member works for castrol. right now i have 20 6 pack cases stored i hear what you say about no diff and understand. i think i said could be wrong. you make good points always.
