I'm in the midle of setting up a 2bbl motocraft carb on a 360 in a 75 F250 4x4..
so....
after the top end engine rebuild im getting smoke out of both exhausts on over-run i.e. when you rev it there is no smoke, when you back off white smoke pumps out... its not real thick "cant see the truck" white smoke more like a kettle boiling hard (yes, i know that would be steam but you try describing smoke density )
I cant remember if white smoke is fuel or oil.... im hoping its fuel as this can probably be sorted with the carb where as oil........ well thats just gonna be a pain in the ***....
Oh, second question is; Where can i get a diaphragm for this carb? Are they widely avaliable ?
I could be way off on this but I thought I'd mention it anyway. Is it an automatic? I've seen alot of smoke before when the trans modulator valve diaphram gets a hole in it....it sucks transmission fluid up and into the intake of the engine...and ya got a lot of smoke...lol. I had this happen to me once in a Ford Mustang 302 C4. As well as I remember it smoked all the time but it was a lot worse when you'd let off the gas....The vacuum would go up and it'd suck alot more transmission fluid up there.
White can be steam. Are you meaning the accerator pump dyaphragm? Any parts store should be able to get it. But if you rebuilt the carb, should have been one in the kit.

fuel is black smoke, oil is blueish smoke water is just like your kettle white does it smell if it is coolant it will have a sweet smell and the exhaust will have a greasy feel to it. if you have access to a cooling system pressure tester put it on pump it up to about 10lbs then start and rev the enigine while watching the gauge the pressure should stay the same or go up as it heats up shut it down and look for a rapid pressure drop that would be a coolant leak
The kit for my 2100 did not include the diaphram for the choke pull-down. I re-installed the old one. It's still working, and easy to replace when it stops working.
In either case, it should be a common parts store item. If you can't find one let me know, it can't cost that much to mail to the U.K.
Tranny fluid: Light blue to whitish with a nasty smell.
It sounds like you're sucking coolant when you back off. Run it up, back off and kill it when the clouds appear. Pull the plugs and look for water.
Then call 3 friends to help you pull the intake, and hope it is the intake and not heads (just say "no" to cracks) or head gaskets.
As for your 2BBL, the rebuild kits I used to buy had all the parts including methinks the power valve.
thanks for the colour break down.... Maybe it is water ? I'll try killing the motor on the puff and see what the plugs look like...
Last time I pulled the stock intake I had no-one else around, man that thing is a heavy SOAB.... Ive only just put the thing back together.. maybe i should pull the rocker covers and re-torque the head bolts incase the gaskets not sealing properly ?
I'll take a look for rebuild kits as opposed to just the diaphragm then

looks like i'll be out looking for a pressure tester today then

Thanks Mike, I'll take a look around the online parts stores and see if I have any joy,
