Intermittent Wiper Switch

I have a '77 F150 my son and I are restoring. The wiper switch (2 spd) is shot, and was curious if I could just install a replacement switch that was designed for the "intermittent" function. (giving me intermittent wipers)

I had noticed a factory intermittent set up on ebay the other day but I don't know if the auction has ended. This way it would just plug in but you would still need to replace your switch as the set up plugs into your switch and the wiring harness if I remember correctly.

Ok. The switch alone ain't enough. The governor on Ebay alone ain't enough. BUT if you put them both together, you've got it made. The intermittent wiper system is the governor box and a special switch. The switch is a special one with low and high speed to the clockwise, and a infinite speed adjust to the counter clockwise. Center position is off. It is a plug and play deal with no modifications to the rest of the system.

sometimes you have to swap a pair of wires. The switch has 2 conectors going to it, one with 2 wires, one with 4 or so. The one I got for my 79 came of an early 80's model, I had to swap the wires in the connector with 2 wires to get it to work properly.

There's a good tech article about this, with pictures, check the link at the top right of page. My '73 has one from a '86 Bronco, so I had to swap two wires, like beeboy said.

I thought you only need the control assy with the stock switch.

You guys think a delay relay could be wired in there to perform the same function?

Maybe but why? Check around at junkyards. You have the choice of trucks from 73 into the 80s. I found mine by going from truck to truck and seeing which one had a switch that would turn both ways.

I was nosing around on eBay a while back. My '77 F250's wiper switch was pretty bad. I passed up some delay switches with everything I needed, probably in the $25 to $35 range. I ended up getting a nice standard two speed switch from a '79 that even had the correct chrome **** on it -- for eight bucks total, including shipping to my door.

Valley Auto, the NAPA store in Sedro Woolley had first been unable to find a stock switch, then after I gave 'em the numbers Trey gave me that came from the Snohomish store, they said there was a switch in a factory in Connecticutt for $84.95 and by the time I paid shipping and sales tax I'd be looking at a hundred bucks. I feel REALLY GOOD about my eight dollar switch!
