There is a guy on another site (PM me and ill tell ya) that had an awesome idea for storage space. He removed the rear seat and carpet and cut out a rectangle of the floor on the hump under the bench. He then fabricated a box from some sturdy sheet metal, slid it in, tac welded it, and seam-sealed the rest from underneath. So what he ended up with was a nice cubby-hole under the bench seat to store amps, tools, straps, cloths, valuables, booze...etc. Put the carpet and the seat back in and presto-chango, it covered and invisible, and you just have to flip the carpet up to get at it. Awesome and simple idea that I will definately be doing in the summer.
looks nice but im not sure if i would want to carry the extra weight
I don't think that it would be that much weight.
I just looked at that picture again and realized that I have the exact same thing for the inside of my tailgate. It's a big piece of diamond plate and has a cut out for the handle. It had holes drilled on the edges and was screwed into the tailgate with machine screws. I took it off when I had to fix the rear window motor and never put it back on. It's still in my garage. When I bought the truck, I thought that it was there to cover some rust, although there was not any rust on the truck. When I took it off I saw that there was no rust. I guess it was just there for looks or protection.
PS - if I ever did to something to my Bronco like that guy did, I would still want the carpet in it, and I would seal the gap between the metal and the floor. I know why people would remove the carpet; but I like carpet and whenever I am going to go mudding or playing in the snow etc. and might need to stash some wet clothes I carry a large plastic storage container and just put the stuff in there.
JB,
The pic and the general idea look pretty cool but pop the the top and can you say ROTISERY COOKING ? The sun Would bounce around in the cab like crazy, SPF 100 sun block would be a must have
