Intakes

Is it still a good idea to replace the intake on an '05? People still using AFE's and Tymar's on them?

I had a shop tell me that you could pick up 65ft/lbs of torque on this truck just by an intake change.... fact or fiction?

By the way.....JUST PICKED UP THE TRUCK LAST NIGHT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do they make an extreme duty for the new trucks? Or does the stock one flow good enought to not make them?

Thanks

I agree with Tim. You can probably save the cast. I put an AFE on mine and I believe it runs slightly cooler and also cools quicker. But I also did the zoodad. I noticed no increased mileage with any of my mods. You can check my reports in my gallery. Haven't figured out why it won't show in my sig probably cause it's a hyper link.

The only reason I think this…is because of your warranty, Ford seems to be getting tougher on ANYTHING that is not stock...just IMO
There are many that claim to flow better.....

From what I have read, mostly from K&N's FIPK site, the advantages don't come into play until over 2500 rpm. Peak advantage for the FIPK is 3500-4000 rpm. I don't know about you, but I rarely if ever get to that rpm level. Cruising at 70-75 on the highway puts me at 2000 to 2250 rpm.

You can't beat the stock filter made by Donaldson. Look it up. Donaldson makes filters for the big industrial earth movers, etc.

IMO, I will stay with the stock.

I went back to the stock on the 03, and will stay with stock for the new truck.

Ya the Tymar set up runs that big Donaldson filter, I put it on my '97, made a noticeable difference. Personally I don't want any of the foam filters because of maintenance, I did the Tymar setup and when its dirty chuck it, on with the new, 2 mintues and your done. Still paper so the filtration was excellent.

Just a thought. If you happen to be running the SCMT 1704 tuner you may see some high rpm benefit as it (the tuner) delays shifting much later than stock, around 3900 I believe. This would seemingly allow you some benefit at higher rpm's. Just my very humble opinion, not scientific by any means. If you aren't running much at WOT it may not help but sure increases the turbo "jet" sound. This is fact based on experience w/ a MAC from Motorhaven.
