can the hood hinge be repaired?

One of my hood hinges is has a loose or missing bushing(is that the right name?) on the point close to the cab. Can I repair this somehow? The hinge operates fine, and is otherwise solid, but when I drive it the hood bounces around.
Thanks
Taylor

Sounds like the rivet at the pivot point is worn out. There's no real bushing in the pivot points. I'd try to find a used hinge. There are places that "rebuild" them, but they're quite expensive. It will be less hassle and less time if you just put a hinge on the truck.

Agree with barry, if you can find set in good shape. Went salvage shopping today for windshield wiper upgrade, not much luck, but did come across couple sets of hood hinges. Unfortunately, not sure what you get get, hoods were removed. There is a previous post on topic in this forum 61-66, by frosty64, dated 3/15/04. Suggest run an advanced search under members name, or topic and see if you get a hit. Mentioned removing hinge and heating with torch then apply pressure.

I will check the junkyards first, but I also I found that thread that you mentioned Dave.
Is there somewhere that just sells new pins so that I could just drill out what was in there and start fresh?
Thank you very much guys!

The problem you face is that the strap the pin goes through wears egg shaped. When you put a new pin or bolt in there you still have slop. the hinge will work but the hood will sit high in the back. You would have to drill out all the rivets take the hinge apart weld fill the holes and redrill them.
