Vibration?

I just bought an 81 ford stepside. There is a vibration between 20-50mph. I dont know what it is exactly but i think that it may be a U-joint. Any suggestions.

Try tightening the u-joint bolts. Fords are known to stretch there u-joint bolts over time. Do you feel vibration in the steering wheel? or just mainly the floor board? if its in the steering wheel I would look at the calipers one could not be returning back after braking. If thats the case change both calipers or the old one will not be as strong and will need to be replaced soon. If its not either the jack the front end up grab the north south and move same direction your holding, if theres play its your ball joints, then move the tire east to west if theres play its a tie rod. If theres no play on any of the above I would check rear brakes to see if they are releasing its a common thing is for an emergancy brake to not fully release the steel jacket that holds the cable will get rusty and bind. Also check rear transmission mount bolts they mght not be tight and cause vibration.Goold luck.

stick mthe tranny into neautral at 45mph see if the vibration goes away if it does it's a u-joint or block the wheels put the tranny inti neautral and physically check each joint for movement as there should be none
