trans shifts fine driving ,no blinking o/d button. fluid level and color is good.
drive -to-reverse , i get a 3-10 sec delay before engagement. sometimes it wont shift at all. Then if I go from reverse - to - drive and back to reverse it will engage.
maybe a sticky solenoid in tranny? a flush/filter would be my first step. how many miles since last fluid change? how do you use the truck? the 4r70w likes fluid clean and fresh.
200k kilometers . flush at recomended factory intervals, dealer. No towing . lots of dirt roads. In and out of job sites. Has weatherguard toolbox with 100 kg of tools. 20kg of communication equipment.400 liters of offroad diesel in slip tank. On highway I drive no more than 130km/hr . I never pound on it. The 4.6 has been flawless.Truck has OffRoad pkg with 275/70/17 GoodYear GSA's . Tow PKG , 3.55 gears. Limited slip .
Truck is Prairie gold with Black bottom. Purple factory pin stripe.Truck is washed once a week for its life.
Best I can explain truck and use I guess. Still has me stumped . What gets me is how intermitten it is. Is solenoid inside or outside transmission?
i'm no expert, so i hope someone else chimes in. solenoids and valves control fluid and shifts in the tranny. if a speck of crud gets between them and their bores they could stick or scratch the bore. this might cause a leak down. at 124k miles your tranny is prob worn a bit. if the dealer has done all your fluid changes your filter has most likely never been changed. dealers usually just pump out old fluid and replace with new never dropping the pan. if you want to try to fix it yourself, do a filter/fluid change. when you drop the pan look for anything abnormal. i.e. pooched out gasket between valve body and tranny, metal shavings on magnet as opposed to normal metal dust. check out tech articles for diy tranny flush. on a side note, your transmission range sensor can cause all kinds of strange happenings and is easy enough to replace. you could also unhook your neg bat cable for 30 minutes to reset any codes that might be in the computer. i hope some of my rant helps you.
