I just replaced the steering gear on my '86 F-150. It's not too bad...took me about an hour. The toughest part was holding it up in place while getting the bolts back in...it's pretty heavy. Make sure you support it with a jack or something when you unbolt it. You'll need a tie-rod puller and a pitman arm puller...I loaned 'em from Autozone, but they're only about 10 to 20 bucks each if you want to buy them. The nut holding the pitman arm on needs to be torqued on pretty hard...I think the spec is 180-220 ft-lbs.
