What kinda gas mileage would I expect if I had a mid 1980`s-late 1980`s F-150 with a 300-6 and automatic? I want to buy a truck, and am considering one of these because there cheaper than similar V-8 models, and I know these motors will run forever if you treat them right.
My 90 F150 SC with 4.9L six gets 16-18 mpg in town, and about 19 on the highway. It is fuel injected, and the odometer reads just over 150K. Had an 81 4X4 F150 with 4.9L and it always got at least 15 mpg. My 68 F100 with 240 I-6 used to average 15-17, occasionally 18 mpg on the highway. Fuel injection helps, but count on a bottom line of about 15 mpg with a carbureted truck. My 90 is an auto, and the others I mention here were standard tranny's.
That sounds alot better than what I am used to.Which is like 9-11mpg around town at most, and about 13-14mpg hiway at most, thats with a `79 Mark V with the "small" 400 and 2bbl carb.I`d buy a lil Ranger, but those V-6`s just don`t cut it for me.Thanks for the input, sounds promising.
I have a 84 F-150 with a 300 I get about 13 in town and on open road....I have a good carb and it is in tune sounds great so i would say thats about right another thing to consider is what the trsanny is and rear end gear that effects that as well I have a 3 speed on the tree and a 3.08 rear gear
