Flamethrower exhuast

I am turning my truck...maybe...into a show truck. I was wondering how to build a flamethrower exhuast . I know you guys may say its stupid, but personally i think it depends on the driver too... . But does anyone know how to buiild one...YOURSELF? Cause all these kits are stupid, and they dont produce big flames, plus, it costs $$$$$. Thanks for the help.

if i remember correctly, you tap and screw a sparkplug into each exhaust pipe 4-6 inches for the tip then you hook up an ignition coil to a switch , pos. from the battery to a switch then to the pos. terminal of the coil, ground the neg, then run a wire from the coil output and split it out the spark plugs. make sure the exhaust system is grounded well. when you rev the motor and hit the switch you should have flames...I think

ditto to what wlihntr said, but you would have to have a very rich/over rich fuel to air mixture. It would have to rich enough for the spark to light up. I don't know if it's possible on a non Carbeurated engine? Also, there is a company that sells kits that use propane for fuel. There have been several threads throughout the forums that discuss this. Try doing a search for flame thrower.

My uncle had a setup like that on a 56 Nomad.

He had it wired so that then he flipped the switch he actually shut off 2 plugs on the engine (giving him a rich mixture at the exhaust) and fired the 2 plugs at the exhaust tips.

just another way to look at this

my late step-father used to tell me about how he had did it on many vehicles and motorcycles that he had owned...but he used Model A coils (im almost sure)...i know they're housed in a small wooden box, because i still have 2 of them...i don't know if these are any different than the newer coils or not...but maybe...someone might know..

All looks good except the neg side of the coil. To get a spark the coil must be turned on and off. It might work if you work the toggle on and off. Or you can hook the neg side of the extra coil to the neg side of your primary coil. Then the trigger portion of your ignition system can trigger your secondary coil.

the coil puts out power continously and as the rotor spins and makes contact with the different positiouns on the cap it sends a short spark to each plug. if you take a coil wire off and hold it you will get a constant shock not one that cycles on and off, so if you take the cap and rotor out of the equation then you have a constant arc on the plug

how would i wire the coiil to go on and off though? and also, do i just use a spark plug wire to go to the spark plug? im thinking you do...but you never know...im still havein trouble trying to understand... . also i've got a 1987 f-250 w/ a 460, carbed, does that equal MORE flame? it has no catalytic converter, just muffler, and a.i.r injection.

oh ok,i knew they were old...figured it was A or T..

and i agree with wlihntr...constant voltage coming from the coil as long as theres constant power going to it..

and 87carbed...you would run a toggle switch and wire it to the positive wire going to your the coil that you're using for your flamethrowers ,so that when you flipped the toggle on that it would send the positive charge to the coil and then on to your spark plug that is located 4-6 inches from the tip of your exhaust...and about the using a spark plug wire to for the plug that is in the pipe, thats what i would imagine you would do,but don't bank on it,cause i'm not sure...

you could get a heavy duty flasher and put it in front of the coil

i guess i did not make this clear in my last post "YOU DONT NEED TO TURN THE COIL ON AND OFF" if you wire it like i said it will give you a constant electric arc (spark if you must) on the plug. if you take a plug out of you car and ground it, and crank the engine, it will go tick, tick, tick, tick, tick thats not because the coil is going on and off, its because the coil is sending power to all the rest of the other plugs between the ticks that you can see and hear. heres another way, if you ran the coil wire straight to a plug and grounded it, it would go bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, not tick, tick, tick, tick, tick
