Recently we purchased a 1995 PSD to pull our race trailer. We have had it for abot a month now, and we are noticing that it drips diesel quite a bit. It has about 220,000 km's on it, and is immaculate inside and out. From what I can see the leak is coming from the fuel pump (which from what I can see is not in a very accessable place about a foot in front of the turbo). My questions are as follows:
1. If the leak is on the high pressure side would it still run?
2. What is the cost (approx.) for the pump?
3. Is it as much of a PITA to fix/replace as it looks?
This is our first diesel, but we are familiar with working on various things, and we most likely could fumble our way through this, so the labour I am not too concerned with; it is the parts cost; and whether everybody else feels that the fuel pump is the problem.
I had to replace mine a while back and I think the part was about $130. I didn't do it myself but, yes it is a PITA. Mine ran fine when it was leaking.
As it would turn out it was the fuel pump, and yeah it was as much a pain to change as it looked. Parts cost was about $150CDN, so fortunately that wasn't too bad. Thanks for the help and the link
