Cool no spark

82 f250 351w i had a problem, truck was running rough, so i put a new coil, ignition module and cap and rotor. truck was running great during a 15 minute test drive. when i got home i turned it off and when i tried to start it again it would just crank and not fire up. i waited 10 min. cuz i thought it might have flooded and it cranked a few times and fired up!! drove it around the block, turned it off and tried to start and it just cranked. my fuel filter was full so i am thinking no spark? what in the world could possibly be wrong now?

i would check for spark properly to be sure and then go from there. it could be a fuel problem also. pull a plug and ground it, then crank the motor while someone watches to see if there is any fire. let us know.

Some coils dont like excessive heat. might mount the coil on the Fender away from the motor.

i'll check for spark tomorrow once i get someone over here. and i have the coil mounted away from the motor on the firewall. so if i dont have spark at the wires then it has got to be distrib, right? a guy at work says that it could have jumped time but i don't reckon it would hve ran as good as it did after i replaced the coil, cap an rotor and the ign. module. i checked the distrib. and it was a little loose but i really had to try to move it. and when i did move it, it only moved 1/4 inch. so i turned it back and tightened it up. this has got me burnt out, i think i am going to buy a horse.

high floats cause a very rich condition and usually a stumble or bog on aceleration.

okay... i had a bad coil wire. it was laying on the aircleaner while i had my cap off and when i bumped the rotor i heard a little snap. i could see it arcing from the wire on to the air cleaner top. so, i put a new coil wire on and then checked my other wires and most of them were doing the same thing. i put a heavy ground strap from motor to firewall and from motor to frame. dont know if this is it but it definatly started. my friend said that the motor wasnt properly grounded and suggested the ground straps.now, with this motor(351w) being slightly modified, bored, decked, and a pretty lopey cam, can i go by factory timing setting?? it is off a little and would like to use a timing light.i hate to just go thru trial and error.if so what is the factory setting??
