86 cutlass dashboard noise
i have an 86 cutlass and there is an anooying rattling noise coming from my dash. it started out just when I accelerated but now its happening all the time. I am hoping its just the speedo cable. but i have the whole instrument panel apart and im thinking it could be in the part at the end of the cable. (The peice that the needle and odometer are on between the needle an the actual speedo cable). any help would be great. thanks david

When I worked in a Ford dealership we would get this complaint from time to time. A little lube on the hood bumpers usually cured it. The sound would travel into the dash and make you crazy trying to find it. Bug shields on pickups would also make weird noises around the windshield.

I have an 83 Buick Regal, I once had an annoying noice coming from the speedo cable. It was especially noisey when it was cold. I lubed it, worked fine afterwords. Like, JoeBlow says, just put some graphite lube on it and it will quiet down.
