My 93 F150 302 E4OD is getting a shift kit installed. I have already purchased the kit PN 10025, my question is what setting I shoulds use, the heavy duty or street/strip configuration. The truck is my daily driver that sees a fair share of off road. All I want is a positive shift to help extend the life of the tranny as it is still in perfect operating condition. I'm getting tired of the 3 seconds it takes to shift from first to second under certain conditions. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
I put one in my 1994 F150 4x4 5.0L and used the heavy duty setting. The shifts are pretty firm, and I can't imagine that anyone would want them firmer on the street.
Excellent, thats what I wanted to hear, the last thing I want is it banging into gear (with the street/strip setup) all the time beating the ujoints and spider gears to pieces. Thanks for the response!
I have the kit along with a Superchip. I use the firm/HD setting as I tow a fair amount. If you don't push hard at the shift points it won't snap too hard. The quicker that the transmission shifts, the sooner it is locked up and pulling more easily. I have 244,100 miles and no E4OD failure of any kind. It does everything I want it to to and does it well. You will enjoy the shift kit and will really notice if you install a chip. Keep in mind though, I have to burn 93 octane in the 460.
While on the subject of shift kits, I havent had much experience or heard a lot about them. What are the benefits of them besides firmer shifts? do they extend transmission life? Gas milage difference? thanks for any info

The shifts are not only firmer, depending on the setting on the kit, they are "crisper" (shifts more quickly from one to the next gear). I have had my shift kit in quite awhile and have 244,100 miles on the truck. I think they are a great help in the E4OD as to longevity. No shift kit is going to prevent or cure abuse. Longevity in any transmission is due to how you drive and the maintenance level you keep. As to gas mileage, I think that it helps marginally based on improved operation. I am driving a '94 with a 460 and any help is noticed fairly quickly in the mileage department. The greatest contributor to improved mileage lately is Seafoam, it's absoultely amazing. Take a moment and weigh the value of joining Club FTE. You are probably going to modify and improve your truck in the future and will benefit from the perks.
