broke heater cable

i have a 96 f-150 and the temp. control cable broke. is there a way to replace it and would it be very hard to do. sometimes it blows hot and sometimes cold i figured that would be the problem with it but it seems that if it were broke it would stay the same all the time and not switching like that.

The cable is very easy to replace, even though its tucked under the dash real well. One screw at each end holes the clamps, then you carefully lift the cable up, and work the end-hook out of the plastic tabs. take your time, you don't want to break the plastic tabs. You'll see what I mean when you look at it closer.

Dealer item, and not too expensive. You can get one in a junkyard also.

thanks frederic, it is already loose from the temp. control it looked as if the previous owner did it when they were ripping stuff out because all of the radio wires would run through there and the radio had been ripped out there were wires hanging everywhere. the truck looked so pitiful when i bought it but all it needed was a little ford love, look at it now.

If you need to replace the cable, the Town Cars of all the years the 94 body style is (92-97? I never remember these things) is only an inch shorter, and you just make the loop of cable behind the controls a little shorter, and you're good to go. The mounting point for that cable is several inches to the left on the air direction plastic thingy, so if its a hair shorter its really not a big deal. Non-climate control Towncar, Crown Vic, Marquis. The climate control full-size RWD Fords have an 8" cable connecting to a servo box - it won't work for you. That's what I used on my crewcab, since finding a 92-96 F-series in the local yard is about as likely as finding a magic genie offering three wishes.

well there is a guy over here that only deals with fords and he's probally got about 10-15, 92-96 models then he has got a bunch in parts so i shouldn't have a problem getting it as long as some one else has not gotten all of them yet.
