2005 cc sb v10 4.30 tqs auto.xlt this throttle has got to go. sometimes itsn awesome when you get on it other times its slow to respond almost like its confused sometimes i wander where are all the 362 horses. i hope ford isnt fudging on this , i mean i like my truck but i dont think it is as strong as everyone is making it out to be. gas mileage hasnt gone above 10.6. i didnt buy it for gas mileage but not getting no wher near what some people are saying 12mpg would be wonderful. put 305/70r/17 maxxis mudders on it speedometer is 3 miles an hour off according to gps i know this makes a difference but truck should get better mpg i have been babying it .tried all tire pressures currently at max pressure od 50 psi for fuel mileage. less pressure was a better ride but fuel mileage suffered even more.3rd to 4th gear spaced way to wide. why does this truck take off in second gear unless you floor it or put it in tow haul, then delays to grab 1st. i know i am venting as this is one awesome looking truck but these are the things im not happy with
Are you going by the computer read out or figuring the old fashioned way? your bigger tires may be throwing your computer off. Also as your engine breaks in it will get better fuel mileage.

figuring it out with a calculator no computer with xlt
How do you figure your starting off in second gear. My truck has 4.10s LS and I have to feather the throttle not to spin tires. I have stated in other posts that its been my experience with drive by wire vehicles that I get better throttle response by pressing steady on the gas feed rather than mashing it to the floor. This was true with my last 3 PSDs and it is true with my V10. There are better technical ways to describe this and I hope someone chimes in with this but I feel in a drive by wire set up when you floor the gas feed, the computer is confused and while it is trying to figure out what the heck you have in mind you get a pause and then it kicks in. In PSDs a part of this was turbo lag but not all of it. All these trucks I owned accelerated faster if I was careful how I fed that throttle. PSDs don't even want to rev up with no load in Park. The computer feels the no load condition and won't respond. Pulling an 8 % grade with a fifth wheel mash it to the floor and the PSD goes like a raped ape. The computer feels the load and gives it everything she's got. If this is not your issue I would take your truck into your dealer for some checks. good luck, Wrenchtraveller

all i can say is i dont have to be careful not to spin the tires i mean the way you saying it is it wants to spin the tires all the time not true in my case and it didnt do this even with the stock tires and the reason i say it takes off in 2nd is when i do take off and give it about 1/2 throttle it goes but doesnt feel strong then punch it wait for kickdown it grabs 1st gear then goes however it does takeoff in 1st when in tow haul so i have started leaving it in tow haul like i said i like the truck i only have 950 miles on it but i hope they make a tuner for it soon. remember everone complained of throttle lag on the f150s well it carried over to my f250 i will diconnect the battery for a while and try itto see if it makes a difference thanks for the reply
Rubicon, good idea on the battery disconnect. If that doesn,t help try your dealer, if that doesn't help try another dealer. Sure sounds like you have a problem that needs a fix. Good Luck and let us know what happens. Wrench.
Excepting the DRW versions or PSD versions I have one of the heaviest V10s on the planet empty..7860-8118lbs depending on level of the 38gallons@ 258lbs of fuel.
At a stop, rolling, tow/haul on or off, my throttle response is right quick and near instant... I can fuggle it all up on purpose but aside from deliberately confusing it I think it works very good.
I drag race bikes and junker cars (with wicked motors) so I think I have a clue about throttle response. I drive a couple of PSD and this V10 all wired throttles... I think the system is almost as fast as a well set up cable or linkage type.
So I have to think A) you got a bad one, and B) you also may not have one of the stronger V10s out there...it happens, Ford motors have a very broad range of power based on what PCM code, what fuel, and how tight or loose the motor physically is.
I have a small fleet of 2 valve V10 all same year and all built same week... 3 of the 8 are out right dogs.. of the 8 we have 4 different PCM codes... I have no earthly idea why, they are all identical trucks except color and trim levels (some XL and some XLT)
I believe the 305 maxxis mudders (while not a good rolling resistance tire) are not a problem with the 4.30:1 rear gear and you should still be well within the low end of the powerband...I sure hope you have the stock tires... most dealers are not going to take your lack of power and response "concern" seriously with the larger than recommended tires mounted.

With careful driving you should be getting better mpg. I know driving just for fun these things will use quite a bit of fuel. Maybe something isn't right though and dealer should check it out. On my 5 speed auto I can't feel it shift, well maybe one shift out of the 5. IMO 12 per gal should be easy to do. I have a relatively light truck (250,reg cab 2 wheel drive V10) and for the most part drive conservative. 90% highway, first 772 miles ave is 13.66. I know if I wanted to have some fun I could bring the mpg down a lot. I'll try it sometime and check. Good luck.
I know the throttle response on my 04 3V 5.4L is less than inspiring. Most folks have gotten a reflash but other just say to get the Superchips Tuner to eliminate the funky throttle response. Darn "drive-by-wire" system! Having a cable is soooo much better...
