Looking for paint codes

Just pulled the engine (272) out of '56 Panel. Looks like the whole thing was yellow from the factory. Does anyone have the paint code for the engine yellow.

Also asking for paint code for the off-white grille.

Thanks,

DB

I haven't seen an actual paint code for engines, like M-12834, as you would find for the body color. If you do a search on the forum you'll find a number of discussions about the correct engine color for various years. A couple of us have found paint colors that will tolerate the heat and seem to match the original colors very closely. I'm using the following paint:

Valve covers - Krylon DE1650 Cast Coat Aluminum (500F)
Black items - Krylon DH1602 High Heat Black (1200F)
Block and heads - Krylon DE1642 Daytona Yellow (500F)

These are very close to the original colors based on dealer brochures, original paint on the block, and other sources. Some of the other guys and gals have used other brands and found close matches as well.

Have never seen a code for engine paint. For my 55 I used a VMT yellow engine spray can enamel. Duplicolor Daytona Yellow spray can is close as is POR yellow engine enamel (brush on).
Code for 56 White is E, Colonial White, M-2J-524.

After looking up some paint numbers today, I got confuserated with the different Sherwin-Williams brand name changes. I figured I'd better make sure I didn't confuse folks with my previous post.

Krylon and Dupli-Color are both made by Sherwin-Williams. Sherwin-Williams has been messing with their marketing strategy, as best I can tell, for the past few years. It used to be that you could find at least some of the Dupli-Color stuff at the Krylon web site. Matter-of-fact, the paint numbers I posted earlier came in cans marked Krylon a few years ago. I just checked, however, and Dupli-Color no longer appears anywhere on the Krylon web site.

There is a Dupli-Color web site now where all their stuff is available. The Krylon numbers I posted here and elsewhere are now "officially" not Krylon numbers, they are Dupli-Color numbers. Same paint, same parent company, different brand name. Ahhh, progress.

Interesting about Krylon and Dupli-Color... I find Dupli-color to be far superior to Krylon. Fewer runs, drips, and errors... The silver Dupli-color is what I use to paint the interior parts of the cab that are the silver (argent) color and not the body color. It is a perfect match, but make sure you don't get the real shiny, sparkly silver that they also make now.

Thanks! I’m just beginning to realize how good this forum is. Every question has been answered, quickly. Looks like the brain trust for these old Fords!
