Driving home today, my 2003 F350 6.0 stalled during rush hour traffic. I was doing about 40-45 and the truck started to act like a gasser does when it misses. The idle just dropped and the truck flat out stalled. I tried recranking and it just wouldn't catch. With the fear that the truck would be towed straight to the dealership I started to reload my stock program as I waited for the tow truck. Let me tell you how long 5 minutes lasts when you are blocking one of the most busiest streets in Denver! Anyway, I finally got the stock program reloaded and the engine fired right up and was able to drive home like nothing happened. My question is, has this happened, or has anybody heard of this happening with the predator loaded? I wish I had saved the codes (if there were any) but I was in a little bit of a rush. Thanks
It sounds more like a wiring issue than a Predator issue. I've never had it happen to me, but IMHO it's something else, especially with the 03. Have you ever had it checked for the chafing wiring harness??? There are TSB's out about it.
I haven't had it in specifically for wire chafing but did have it in when I had the gas pedal replaced. The reason I bring up the predator is that about 3-4 months ago it did almost the same thing only it didn't stall. Both times I had issues with the engine, the predator was uploaded with the 65hp level. Common sense would tell me to not use the predator anymore but everyone that has one knows why I can't leave it out of my truck. I am really wondering if the predator is really just magnifying a smaller problem with the engine.
Oh yeah, I was nice enought to call the tow truck driver and he just left the shop so he said no big deal.
That is a great site, i sure like pictures. I will poke around tomorrow but it is definatley going to the shop in the morning. I just hit 35500 miles so I hope they keep it until it is fixed. I just hope they can find something because if I remember right, chafed wires aren't under warranty once I hit 36000.
When this problem surfaced, I got some wire loom and looked for the potential chafing spots and put extra wire loom in those places. I also replaced some of the tape they use to hold down the wires. That tape that comes from the factory is obviously sourced from the lowest bidder.
good point about the extra loom... it's cheap and easy to add...
it also looks like to me the tape may be part of the problem in that it may stress the wire connections into the connectors in some places....
Lucky me. After my truck stalled yesterday I was hoping I could use it until my Friday morning appointment at the dealership. On my way to work this morning it started to stall again. I was able to get into a parking lot this time at least. Funny thing is that I was able to floor the accelerator and keep the engine alive in ordere to find a parking lot. Granted, the engine was floored but only putting out 5% power. Called the dealeship and said it had to come in now. It actually started right up this time and I made it about a mile and it started stumbling again so I pulled over and finally called road side service. Anyway, I thought it was good that I was able to duplicate it without the Predator and thought the dealership would have no problem diagnosing it since it was so obvious. I checked the codes again and nothing appeared. Just got off the phone from the dealership and I am the lucky recipient of the flight recorder. They had the truck out on the road for an hour and a half and........nothing happened. Overall, I really love this truck but it becomes a little stressful worrying if you are going to make it to your destination every time you start the engine.
I am just over 35500 miles. I am praying this acts up more on a colder engine so if and when it happens again I will be close to home. It has always happened within 5-10 miles and my truck is usually just reaching operating temerarure. What angers me most is that when the truck finally had to go in, it stalled 3 times while I was trying to limp it back to the dealership (less than 5 miles away). So under this condition I was finaly convinced the truck was in a position to prove to the dealership what was happening. I noticed a 40 mile increrase on my odometer when I got the truck back and am amazed how the truck will not act up with them. I had it less than 20 miles and it stalled a total of 4 times. I just hope i can duplicate it with the "flight recorder" installed. I know they don't think I am lying but this the second time in the shop and they haven't found anything. Maybe the fact that it came in on a hook this time warranted the black box.
