In the process of taking the C6 outta my 77 f150. All was going well until I tried to get the shift linkage off. Should it come off at the kickdown arm location? (I would guess, but it's a motha') Or somewhere else? I hate to cut it off but if I can't get it the first couple hours of the morning it's gettin' cut cause' I gotta get it to the shop tomorrow afternoon. I already broke the linkage to the transfer case so I'm trying to be easy on this one.
Is it presses into a plastic bushing? Those can be a pain to get out. Usually alot of careful prying with a screwdriver is how I get them apart. Or you could remove the nut that holds the linkage arms on and just leave the linkage hanging in the truck.
They're pressed in metal to metal.(I think) It looks like it should come off where the kickdown/ gear selector go into the tranny. No luck so far though. Had to take out Rad. to get the fan off so I could turn the motor to get to the 4 9/16 bolts holdin the converter to the flywheel. Talk about tight! I'm 27, 6'4" 230 and it was all I had to break'em loose. FYI When I pulled the plug on the converter it didn't have any fluid in it. Tried 5 different ways to turn the motor and that was the best I could come up with. On the bright side....I've only swore at it 4 times. I haven't broke or smashed anything on purpose, I'm just tryin' to have fun with it. The hardest so far was taking the bolts outta the transfer case. For a guy with big paws there is NO room to work up in there. Then you get the classic, I can make 1 turn with my fingers till the bolt binds...so put the ratchet on it...but not enough bind to get the ratchet to work... most of us have been there I'm sure. Thanks for any input
Ever notice that little guy only shoots outta' one gun?
If I could leave the linkage hanging it would be great, no problem at all!! But, I can't get ANY piece of it apart. I used my sleever bar on the transfer case linkage and broke it, but you could tell it was already cracked and it's cheap cast anyway. I get along well with wheels, tires, large bolts, brake rotors, body parts??, oil changes, motors, driveshafts etc. I don't get alog well with needle bearings outta U joints you just dumped on the floor, small carb parts, wiring, bolts that need 10lbs of torque, wiring, you get the picture.
Oh, one more edit, I took the 2 9/16 bolts outta the side of the tranny that holds the bracket. All that is attached is where the kickdown/main shift levers are at. Like I said, that looks like where it should come off
