Wally World, and it's cheap, so's the oil filter, so's the air filter, so's the cajun crawfish and Corona.

Does it meet the Ford M2C153-H / ILSAC GF-3 or the newer M2C930A / ILSAC GF-4 specifications? Look here for more info than you thought was available... or wanted to know

http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi

I have decided on the Semi synthetic Motocraft oil that Ford spec'ed for these vehicles, which by the way meets the above forementioned standards. The semi synthetic should give you the best of both worlds... fair price for 3000 mi drain intervals and superior protection compared to standard dino oil. Got mine a Autozone for $1.78 qt.

None of the above...a firearms enthusiast actually.

I must say this board (FTE) has been very helpful in my quest for my EX. Has also been very insightful about some of the issues with said vehicle...my biggest concern so far is how to handle the front bump stop issue. The path I am leaning towards at the moment would be to install "U" code springs with super duty bump stops. But with a front spring change out I don't want the rear to look like a dog w/worms dragging it's hindend around. I may try the SD bumpstops and new shocks first, and go from there. Thanks for your informative posts, as I look forward to reading more of them.
Take Care,
John

Me and a friend cleaned out all the local Walmarts of MC 5w-20 (140 some quarts) and most of their FL-820s filters. If you can still find it at Walmart, grab it! You want be able to for long. If you can't find it or just hate them enough not to buy from them, Autozone seems to be keeping it, though my local store has jacked up the price to $2.29.

Ahhhhhh Flying Brass.......... as in 4000 rounds per minuet flying out of the delinking feeder of the M168 6 barrel 7.62mm minigun!

I love the acrid smell of smokeless powder in the morning! And the sweet smell of LSA burning off the barrels is very invigorating!

Sure glad I use MotorCraft 5W20 and FL820S to keep my V10 nice and cool. BTW of my 2 personal V10s and 8 small business V10s NONE of them are leakers.... over 5 years of scheduled maintenance and not one of the V10 I am personally dealing with even has a seep any where.. I am amazed and I guess lucky as both my personal trucks never use any measurable amount of oil between 3000 mile changes. I think I will stick with the semi-synth MotorCraft 5w20.

Another BTW.... locally I have a place called Larry’s Lube center where I let them rapidly change out oil and filters on my "other" vehicles...(yes I am now that lazy). The last time I was there I saw they had a 55 gal barrel of Motorcraft 5w20 and asked for a pint. At the house I put the bulk oil in a clear glass and some of a partially full plastic quart left over MC 5w20 in another glass. The both had the same thumb/finger feel, same smell, but the bulk stuff was more opaque or cloudy sort of and a slightly lighter shade of yellow orange.... Hummmmm I think I will stick with the stuff in plastic quart bottles... has anyone ever found it in Gallons?

Do you still get out and heat up a few barrels yet?

I especially love getting the Ma Duece warmed up...ventilating old cars and appliances with API's or Bluetips..this is what I like to call ... Gunpowder Therapy!

Sorry to hijack this thread (I seem to do it a lot lately)

John

Working on Fort Hood as a operational test officer gives me ample opportunity to get out on the ranges and wheedle my way behind the trigger every now and then.. Great fun! Unfortunately as a DA civilian they won't let me back in the Cobra or Apache front seat. I have a little over 400 hours in the front of both and a couple of down range runs. I taught aircraft armament for a few years back in the 80s.

Fredvon4,
Well I would have to say that you most definitely got to play with big boy toys!
I would also like to thank you for your service to our country.

To keep this thread oil related ..... I had a 99 E150 with a 5.4 in it. Being that this was a work truck...it had two buttons on the floor at my feet, a stop fast and a go fast. I did change oil every 3-5k but oil changes were made at quick change places of different flavors. The thinnest oil this truck ever seen was 5w30 in winter and in summer I would run 10w40. At 210,000 miles this truck is still running strong...and seems it may need a quart of oil at 2-3k.
A 92 E150 with a 5.0 got the same treatment and went 325,000, motor still ran great, other than the rear main oil leak, she was put to rest for a blown rearend...
And my 91 F250 with a 5.8 and 135K. At oil changes I can still read the writing through the oil on the dipstick. Used Quaker State since I got it...

So, I think the moral of this story is... change that oil regularly for a happy powerplant.

Take Care,
John

You hit the nail right on the head! That's the key - changing it often.

I have a friend who works for a Ford dealer as a mechanic. He said that when the new thin oil came out the sent a suite from the headquaters to talk to the guys about the new 5 - 20 oils. He told them the usual stuff that the oil is OK for the motors, and that with the new tolerances that having this thin of a oil will not hurt the motor. But hear in San Diego we like to go to the deset a lot, and it gets over 100 degrees. The questions were if the oiul will still protect at those high temps. The suite assured them it will but said 20w is thin and prolonged use at those high temps are not recomended for any vehicle with any weight of oil. So I asked him what oil do all of the guys use at the dealer and he said straight out, 5-30, but for customers, since ford makes so much of the 5 -20 that what goes in the customers cars. Ford made the 5 -20 for mileage, and there is no argument there. But since a use my truck hard, I put 5-30 Mobil 1 synthetic in the truck. Plus like my friend said, it doesn't matter what you put in your car, just as long as you sleep at night. Also one other thing he says, make sure you change your oil regularly. If you do that you could put oil from the 99 cent store in your truck and it would run for ever.
