Is it true that if rust can't breath it can't rust. I have a 67 that originated in canada and the whole front end had to be replaced due to rust my next thing is replacing the bed. But i do have some holes in the bottom of the cab I was wondering if I painted it over with some of the wal-mart bed liner would it stop it from rusting. This stuff is like the rhino liner just lot cheaper $40.00 gallon.
Thanks
Keith
no that wont stop it but there's a product that will. i used it on a few things and it works. por 15 is the name and you should be able to get it at automotive paint supply stores
I agree with 4cammer72. POR15 is by far the best rust paint going. You have to do very little sanding before you can put this stuff on. It stops the rust. Rustoleum damp-proof primer is my second choice.
Guys Is this stuff expensive? what color is this stuff when it dries? Also can you spray it with a sprayer. Hey cammer where in SC are you I'm here in waterloo SC. On lake Greenwood.
Keith
im in swansea and yes it can be sprayed from a gun, it is black and it cost a little bit more thn the stuff off the shelf but you get what you pay for.
Do you have to pretreat it with the stuff they say on their website or will it do just as good without this process? I know some companys want you to buy alot of stuff.

It was originally designed as a marine paint for steel-hulled boats and ships. I know because I've used it for years on just such creatures. Yes, it does work fantastic for automotive applications as well. Just so long as you see it for what it is and not something that you want for a finish job. It's great for frames, bed interiors, etc... In other words, it's not something that you want to see on your hood while you're driving down the road.
As to my other point, POR-15 comes in a variety of colors. If all you can find is black, just check it out through a marine paint distributor (if you're near the coast) or perhaps via one online.
I have seen a product called Ospho recommended as a rust stopper by folks in the marine industry. Might do a Google on it. I have seen better comments on it over por15.
POR stands for "paint over rust" it turns rust to black oxide, which is harmless it also chemicaly bonds to the metal so surface prep can be knocking down surface rust with a scotch brite pad or clean bare metal.
I have a friend who sprayed the bottom of his Merc, used no resperartor and wound up in the hospital. Be sure to use breathing protection and cover your skin. It bonds to skin very well too. Good stuff I did my inner aprons and inside fenders with it yesterday.
You absolutely do not want this stuff on your skin. I learned the hard way. Even though I wore gloves and a long sleeve shirt, the POR found it's way though the gap by the cuff of my flannel shirt. I literally had to let it wear off from lots of scubbing over many days.
I rebuilt the floor of my '70 w/ POR 15 and fibreglas mat. The rest of the floor rusted away, but the patch is solid. You need to overcoat it before it fully cures, or you will have to sand it (good luck) Just fog it w/ primer while it is still tacky if you wish to overcoat it. It's hard to remove from anything. There's still a glob of it on my driveway from 10 years ago. I poured it in my doors while I had them apart to stop the bottoms from rusting.
