Heres a question regarding differential swaping. Can a limitedslip carrier from the rear axle be mounted in the front axle? and vice versa?
Im talking mainly about the '88 series 8.8 ring gears. And to extend the question a bit farther will 8.8 carriers swap out with any other 8.8 from any year?
The Axle code for my bronco is "19" Translated out 3.55 and open diffs. Now dont get me wrong im just trying to get this straight in my head... Are all ford front ends loaded with Dana 44's or just a select few?
Ditto to Bigric. Two completely different axles D44 up frotn and Ford 8.8 out back.
(Should I confuse the issue further by saying that newer Fords do have 8.8's in front but they will NOT swap into a Bronco)? Nahhh, it suffices to say that if you are swapping carriers in the rear you will need a Ford 8.8 carrier. If you are swapping carriers in front you will need a Dana 44 carrier SIZED according to the gear ratio you are using. The Dana 44 uses a different carrier for gears that are 3.92 and up. So, if you go taller than 3.92 in front you will need a different carrier than the one that currently holds your 3.55's.
