door actuators

I have an 01 f250 diesel club cab ( 2 small rear doors). I believe my door actuator on the passenger side is acting up. When I hit the unlock the **** on the passenger side acts like it wants to come up but almost seems like its weak. Sometimes it works but most of the time it doesnt. My ford dealer has the actuator in stock for $56. My question, is this something I can replace myself? Do I need any special tools? Any instructions and or illustration would be greatly appreciated.

Try shooting some teflon lube in there first. i used WD-40 on my rear hatch 01' Ex, but after reading on this forum the WD-40 can collect dust making it stick again (I havn't had this problem), but the teflon lube sounded like a good idea.

yeah it's something you can replace yourself without any special tools...all you have to do is take off the inner interior door panel piece and then the rubber insulation below that to gain access to the actuator....its a bit tight working inside the door but its not that hard to replace. Also if you really want to know if it needs replaced just look at the outside condition of the actuator. If theres burnt marks on it (like mine was) it definitely needs replaced.

good luck

similar problems

I am having similar problems. My crew cab randomly rotates which doors will lock/unlock. It is never the same doors every time. I can set my alarm and then open the door. Is there some sort of relay I can replace before buying four new actuators?

The right rear passenger door was doing the same on my 97 PSD. I removed the door panel and cleaned the contacts in the connector underneath the panel, which seems to have healed it. I also cleaned everything else I could find in there - very dusty. Now the electric window works better, too. Just make sure if you use a spray that you use something that's made to clean connector contacts. Solvents can dissolve the connector body!
