Tires ?

I have a 1990 F-250. Does anyone know what the largest tires I would be able to put on this vehicle without making any adjustments (body lift/wheel wells)?

Hi,

Depending on the manufacturer, from 31 to 33 inches. Why manufacturer? I've seen that most "big" tires are actually undersized if you pull out your nifty measuring tape and give it some good use. Without wanting to bias in to any brand, Mickey Thompson Claws and almost any Interco brand tire tend to be actual to spec in what concerns to hight. A guy at work has 33X12.5 on a 91', I don't remember the brand but, even though they look tight they dont rub on anything. Be careful with 14.5 inch wide tires, this is a bigger ballpark. If in any case they do rub, (33 inchers) it might most probably be on the front bumper and you can possibly clear this by shimming the brackets.

... I forgot to mention if you do some offroading the bigger 33's will most probably rub when you crush your suspension. Also, it would be safe to get a good stearing damper to control any shimmy at high speeds with the bigger tires.Cool ones

I used to have an 89 F150 Custom that I put 31 x 10.50 Commanche on without any mods. When I turned the wheel all the way in one direction or the other, the tire would rub the frame just enough to keep the dust knocked off the frame. Never was enough to do any damage to the tire at all. I suspect your 90 model dimensions under the front end should be the same as my old 89. Just something you might wanna check if you use over sized tires.

I am running 33" tires on my '94 F250 without any problem. No rub, no issues, no bumper relocate. Using a tape measure they measure 32.5" on the truck. Keep in mind weight tends to reduce tire height, rolling circumfrence will be the same, the rubber does not compress in circumfrence.

My 88 F-250 came with 33's stock. Based on a truck magazines article on the biggest tires you could go w/o a lift I went to a BF Goodrich 35 12.5 R 16.5. The fronts will rub the leafs a bit if you cut the steering all the way but otherwise they are fine. Also, as I understand it, they are the only tire that size on the market that has a 3-ply side wall. I have run this tire for ten years now, I get about 36,000mi between changes and (knock on wood) I have never had a flat. I have had numerous nail and screw holes though and these have just been slow leaks that were noticied after the tire had gone down to about 20psi more or less. As far as I know for a 250 of your year you can go to a 35" and if you do I reccomend the BF Goodrich.
