Question 360 Head Gasket Coolant Port Orientation

I've just torn the heads off my ford 360 to replace the gaskets. I noticed that there are coolant jackets in the front and rear of each bank, but the gaskets only allow flow through the rear jackets. I'm just curious if anyone can tell me why this is.

Due to the path the coolant takes as it travels through the block. I just went through this with mine, here's the thread;

Great. Thanks for the link. This answers all my questions, and I'm really glad to know before I torque down the heads.
