Ok, I have a 85 ford f-150 with a 302, my truck has been stalling alot lately. Ive checked the air bypass valve cleaned it but truck still stalls out. But this time I smelled a nasty stinch coming from the tail pipe when it stalled out and thought it might be a vaccum leak. My question is; where do I start at, where are the vaccum hoses located and what do I need to solve this problem.
Oh!! and if any of you have a different opinion of what might be causing me to stall out please let me know.
I'm not sure if a vacuum leak alone would make your truck stall, but my vacuum leaks cam from the colored plastic hoses: they had turned brittle and had broken several times. I replaced all of them with rubber hoses.
One of the best ways I have used to find a vac leak is to take solvent in an oil squirt can and spray the solvent around the intake an other possible vac leak points. If you do have a leak the engine will speed up when the leak is sprayed.
