Grille shell

Has anybody ever re-finished the grille shell of their 70-72 F-Series??

If so, what/ how did they accomplish this, I've got two that need it asap.

I assume they're not painted.I did 1 on a '68 I had and the only thing I can say is "it took alot of elbow grease",Especially on the headlight bezels( they were the roughest,but straight).I started with 600 grit and just kept going up from there until everything was "clean" and then started buffing.I never used any kind of abrasive compound though (which is why it took longer).
