At the base of the steering column, just above the u-joint, you will see two connectors. The large one is for the horn, cruise control, etc. The other is a two wire job, with a yellow jacket. This is for the air bag. First, disconnect the battery and let the truck sit for about 20 minutes to let the air bag controller power supply drain. Then disconnect the connector I just mentioned. To remove the steering wheel you remove the four nuts on the back side of the wheel spokes to remove the air bag pod. Then you need a steering wheel puller (these are usually universal).
I think you can replace the entire ignition switch assembly without removing the steering wheel. If you do a search of this board you may find an old explanation of this procedure. Good luck.
