i had the same thing done, my 5 spd sounded like a race car for awhile, then itgot alot better, down ****fting sounds great, i also had it dumped right after the muffler.
the super 40 is louder and deeper quite inside cab
the normal 40 is loud and deep inside cab
the delta 40 is in between both but that depends on your exhuast system
for example my exhuast is headers-then pipe to fm40 delta then to dual spilt-rear. no tips
I lookin for it to be loudest outside the cab it doesn't bother me how it sounds inside wether loud or not. So if i want loudest outside i should go with super 40
As for the muffler, I'd just crawl underneith and look at the old muffler. The old one should give you a pretty idea of what you need. I've never looked at that specific pickup, but I would guess the center I/O would work fine, don't quote me on that though.
For Ford F150, it's ideal to get an "offset" inlet. Having said that ....
An "original" 40 only comes with centered inlet, so muffler shop needs to fabricate a small "S" shape pipe to match exhaust pipe to new 40.
Delta Flow 40 comes with offset inlet, lines right up with exhaust pipe and puts the muffler right where it should be.
So, you can have the loudness you want, it's just a little more work to get the original 40 to work. (My opinion, I like the original 40 vs. Delta Flow). I've had both. Right now, original 40, single inlet, dual outlet.
Check the Flowmaster website for all the configurations of the available mufflers.
I have a Delta 40 and it's loud. I've gotten pulled over 2 times with cops not thinking I even had muffler on. Got a ticket once for being too loud. But.. it sounds really good. I have mine dumped before the axle.
If you want really loud tho.. why put a muffler on? You could also put a 30 series on there..
