Has anyone out there thrown away their twin I-beams and used an A-arm type suspension...if so, what did you use, if you don't mind sharing, or does someone make a kit or something along those lines. I have a 1981 F150 XLT step side that lived most of its life in Nevada, so that it why it has survived. I have an 85 roller 302, with c6 and early style B&M blower. Just don't like king pins. Thanks, Terry
If your problem is with the king pins, scrounge your local yard for a newer balljoint front end.
Before I finished typing this, I wanted to try and find a really old Truckin' Mag. Couldn't find it, but I have boxes to go through. . . Anyways, there was a kit that looked like your typical Mustang IFS swapper, and it bolted up into the engine crossmember where the old TTB was. Was a wierd setup, I'll keep an eye out for that mag.
the i-beam king pin was a strong, but weak idea. what i mean by that it that it could take any punishment-speed a 50 or 60's truck could dish out. in the 70-80's when speeds came up the front end became a real problem. it will not hold an alignment correctly, let alone take one. they have caster(or lack of) issues, and were really limited to one or two bendings. they have always had a bumpsteer issue at high speeds. my 81 f350 drw at 60 with the five'r on will give you a real shock when you hit a good pot hole in the road. i updated mine to the 88 and later, and have been very happy. parts are cheaper, and does not require me to rebend-rebuilt everytime i change a component.. you can change the kingpin inclination, as well as camber fairly easy..
