Rookie Truck Question

Hello All,

got a real rookie question for you. I have to hall a queen size box spring 300 miles. It will fit width ways but not lenght ways in the screw. How should I strap it in? Tailgate closed with box spring resting on it or tailgate open (is this even safe?)

Thanks

I hauled a queen box and mattress last summer. Closed gate with the mattress/box sprg on the gate. For extra security I used a ratchet strap, hooked one end to the passenger side bed hook, went over the pasenger corner of the mattress, at half of the width I wrapped around both mattress and box sprg so the strap was under the box sprg (had to lift both mattress/box sprg up to get the strap under), hooked to the driver's side bed hook and tightened it up.

This is where a bed extender is helpful. I have hauled several items that were too long for the SCrew's bed, but fit nicely with the tailgate down and using the extender (including mattresses).

I just did this and handled it exactly as Lardman did. No problems.

the cleats on the flareside bed would come in handy here as well
