Has anyone converted at V-belt 302 to a serpentine belt set-up? If so did you take the set-up off a newer motor or is there an aftermarket kit? I have a 1974 302 motor.
Jeg's, Summit, and craploads of other places online have the conversion kit. You might want to look at the set-ups there, goto the boneyard and find the one for your rig. Remember the waterpump rotation will be reversed for serpentine so you'll probably have to go new on the pump if you want to be safe.
Thanks for the info. I'll check it out. I've never seen it in the Jeg's magazine, although I've never really looked for it. Thanks for the waterpump info. I wasn't aware of that.
In addition to the water pump, I believe you have to also change the timing chain cover. The water pump must be compatible with the timing chain cover. There are at least three different covers that I'm aware of. The first is the early timing chain cover that came on my 69 351W. The water pump inlet is on the right side (drivers perspective). It is a standard rotation pump with V-drive belt. Then they went to the standard rotation with the water inlet is on the left side and a V-drive belt. These two have a fuel pump mounting boss. Then they went to the reverse rotation pump with the inlet on the left side. This last one is the serpentine set-up and has no provision for a fuel pump as these were on fuel injected cars/trucks and used an electric fuel pump. Take a look at the Ford performance parts catalog. There are different water pump and timing covers listed.
