02' Explorer Towing ?'s
Can somebody tell me how much an 02' Ford Explorer Eddie B. can pull? It has a 4.0 SOHC and no tow package. Will it accept a 2" ball on that 1.5"? hitch? I was hoping to tow an enclosed, 8' wide by 16' long, 2 axle landscape trailer. I do not know how much it weighs but it will be hauling 2 Walker Mowers , 2 line trimers, 1 edger, 2 backpack blowers, hedge trimmers ect. Please help!

If you have the Class II hitch (1.25", not 1.5") it's rated at 3500# max. You can buy adapters to plug a 2" ball mount in there, but that doesn't change the hitch's rating. With no tow package you don't have an engine oil cooler or 3.73 LS rear gears. IMHO you shouldn't do it, but if you do PLEASE make sure that trailer has good brakes!!! BTW, did you get your tranny fixed?

I found out that the trailer is approx 1400 lbs empty. Now if I cut back and only bout on a 100lb mowers ect. will that affect it? Total weight the vehicle will be pulling no more then 2,200 lbs at a MAX. And by the way, yes I got the tranny fixed, thank you.

That weight sounds low for a 16' enclosed tandem-axle trailer; any chance of getting it weighed? WI requires trailer brakes for towed weights over 3000#; you SHOULD be OK if you stay under that, but if it was my trailer I'd want brakes. JMO........
