Running Problems

I have an 1988 F250 with the 351W engine. When the truck gets warm and I am driving it on the highway, it tends to shut itself off. The weird thing about it is that after it shuts off, the thing will start right back up when in turn the key. I thought that maybe it was an ignition related problem but I replaced the Cap, Rotor and Ignition Control Module and had it re-timed. But on the test drive it killed it self again. Anybody out there got any other ideas??? Also could you tell me the correct timing settiing for it?

i think the correct timing for just about all 5.0 and 5.8s is 10 degrees BTDC.

sounds like it could be a fuel problem. regulator, fuel pump, fuel lines.

my fater in-law had the same problem with his 88 5.0 and we replaced the sensor on the bottom of the throttle body, don't know if yours would have that sensor on the bottom of the throttle body. hope this helps.

Does it set off a Check engine light? Could be the EGR valve not closing at HWY speeds causing it to stall out. How's the idle?

iimbob could be right with the Throttle position sensor.

It doesnt set off any check lights, but the EGR is probably something to look into though. I`m gonna look in to the fuel aspect of it though cause my friends LIncoln did kinda the same thing and it turned out to be just a clogged fuel filter.
