Hi to all.

Put a new rebuilt 351m engine in my 89 f-250 4wd. After a little work, all is well.....except....

The air conditioning doesn't work. Nothing in the system was disconnected, and as far as I know, nothing leaked out. Yet, no cold!

Can anyone shed some light on my problem?

Thanks in advance,

Scoot

Assuming you didn't let the refrigerant out of the system, ie you still have a charge and things were working before you did the work...

I would suspect a bad electrical connection/fuse or a vacuum line is not hooked up. Check all the connections and fuses for the ac. Does the compressor cycle when you turn the ac on? If it doesn't then you have a bad connection or the AC low refrigerant switch has kicked it out. Most shop manuals will have a wiring and vacuum line diagram you can trace things from.

One thing that happens to me almost everytime I work on the passenger side(AC condenser etc on that side under the hood) is that I almost always accidentally pull a vacuum plug loose and it is not always visibly obvious. On my 94, don't know what your year has but suspect similar, the vacuum lines for AC are kind of shiney plastic hoses, usually red and black and white colors, with a rubber plug on the end. On my truck there is a plug with 3 hoses in it that plugs into the AC box under the hood. This plug can be lifted off enough to cause a leak but looks like it is still plugged in. Worth a check since like I say, I almost always knock this one loose, and on a 94 it will cause a CEL(check engine light) after a few miles.

Almost always in situations like yours, you just forgot to plug something in. You could also check the pressure on the AC lines to make sure you did not let all the coolant out. Since you have an older truck you probably have the old style(R12?) coolant so it will cost a lot to recharge.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson
