broken firewall,shifting probems??????
1990 f super duty-my last thread described that when my truck is in gear with clutch fully depressed, the truck rolls slowly. furthermore it is hard to shift gears while driving. the response I got was to check for air in hydraulics.(sounds good to me) i bleed the system and the problem didnt go away A friend stopped by and i pointed out where metal is torn behind where the clutch master cylinder connects to the firewall, and he told me this could affect my shifting.later on i stuck two small self tapping metal screws in and believe it or not my truck now shifts fine. HAS ANYONE HEARD OF SOMETHING SO STRANGE AND DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON A MORE PERMENANT FIX.

Your Ford dealer should have, or be able to get, a firewall reinforcement bracket that will cure the problem.
The crack you got was from the flex of the firewall during shifting over the years. It's not an uncommon problem.

I put the kit in a 92. It came with new pedals and all. It made everything stronger. It wasn't hard to do. Took about an hour I guess. There may be kits without the pedals. Ask your local Ford dealer.
