buying a salvage
Just bought a 2000 ford expy eddie bauer with 41,000 mi. Now it was a slavage. I saw the pictures of the damage. the damge occured when it was stolen and they ran it into some brush NOT trees. All cosmedtic damge. It was repaired with new metal and parts form the dealership. The dealer was asking $15,999 I paid $12,900. I did take it to a body shop and they said that it was a good job. I did get a 1yr warranty on drive-train and body/paint and 90 day bumber to bumber.
QUESTION---did I do bad or good?

Personally, I'd say you did GOOD...but the answer to your question is VERY subjective. I paid $10k for my 98 EB with 101k miles on it. At the time (Sept 04), the NADA Avg. Retail value of mine was $13,995. So I thought I did good. HOWEVER, MANY folks will tell you NOT to go by NADA, KBB or Edmunds, or any other value guides.
With only 41k miles, like I said...I think you did GOOD (WELL would have been proper English ) OOPS...you didn't mention..is it 4x4 or 4x2??? That's gonna make a pretty good difference in value..

Assuming it has 3rd row seating and rear A/C - nadaguides.com gives it a $17,125 (avg trade-in) and $20,000 (average retail), of course that doesn't take into account the salvage title, but if the work was done properly, that shouldn't be a big factor. ...so IMHO...you did VERY WELL! CONGRATS!!!
Bottom line is...if you're happy with the vehicle, it matters little what anyone else thinks about the deal you made.
Current fuel prices are driving prices WAY down on large SUV's...that's probably why you snagged it for such a good price.
Good luck and happy motoring

Congrats on your new truck. I am not trying to be a killjoy here, I am genuinely happy you got such a great deal.
It has to be asked though, with only cosmetic damage why was it tagged as a 'salvage'? Was the cosmetic damage so bad that it cost more than the value of the vehicle to repair it, thus causing the insurance company to 'total' it? Was it a rollover? Did you get any kind of documented, traceable paper trail of the mileage (official repair receipts, original insurance company docs, etc.)?

Yes, got all the receipts, pictures of the damage, police report,. Damage to ft left fender, ft right fender, bumber, right side pass. door =, rear panal. Broken left heated mirror,. head lights. the damage wasn't crunched in but dings and dents. The dealer paid 9200$ for the vehicle(showed me sale receipt) . I calculated the receipts --(all from a local ford dealership) equals about 4000$. He said that it has been around to long and needs to get rid off. He said that they had hard time selling it because of the salvage title. They originally wanted $15,990, but after a week of going back and forth, we came to a price of $12,900 with warranty.

side note, I really struggeled over this. Did alot of research and head scratching. I would of never bought it if i did'nt get the price and warranty i wanted. The dealer even let me drive it for a week, so i did. I brought it to a body shop and repair garage. Found no problems with the body, frame, engine, tranny, etc. It was either buying another ford expy, with 70 to 80,000 miles and still having some type of risk of a used vehicle, or the salvage, looking brand new and with low miles.

I would also ask your insurance carrier what you would receive if it is totalled (again). My bet is that you will probably receive about 1/2 of what low to mid bluebook is. I would also run a carfax report on it to try to verify odometer readings, It is real easy to throw in a new instrument cluster. Is this a new card/ford dealer that is in the business of buying salvage vehicles and trying to turn them on his lot Z? Usually a dealer will not touch a salvage vehicle.

I did run a carfax and the odometer reading gave a OK. I did check with my insurance before i bought the vehicle, they said they would cover the TOTAL amount according to what I paid for the vehicle and depreciation The vehicle did come from a salvage dealership (shalee auto ) its on the web. ). History on the vehicle. the vehicle has not been on the road since 3/03. It was for sale at Shallee auto for some time WithOut any repairs. He then rebulit and put it on the market on 5/04 for $15,999 And then i purchased it 3/05 for $12,900 with the warranty .
