Looking for help w/ 98 EB Expedition
When coming to a stop, a chattering noise comes from the engine compartment. Doesnt happen all the time. If I shift to neutral it will go away. sometimes it's worse with the heater or a/c on - but most times I am not using either. Have no clue as to where to start loking for the problem. Please help

Welcome to FTE. Are you the original owner? What engine? How many miles, and how have you been with service? Does it do it hot or cold? If you don't shift into neutral, will it make the noise as you pick up speed? Will it make the noise long enough for someone to open the hood and look around and listen?

I just bought the vehicle, it was a commercial lease before. It has the Triton 5.7 v8, 75,000 miles. The noise is usually after it has warmed up -- it almost seems as is the idle is too low. If you give it a little gas while holding the brake the noise goes away.. Someone suggested something about the fuel line needing adjustment?? also - it almost sounds like a ???cricket???

check the shield around the muffler. they tend to loosen up after some miles. sounds travel though metal in some weird ways. also check the exhaust connection just after the catalytic converter, they also loosen. sounds like it's a resonance issue. mine idles around 850 RPM.
