We have had a few of the Expy's all with the 5.4 and I have to say that the 04 MY we have now only has 5400 miles on it and we have never had one that got as bad a fuel mileage as this one does. Been watching the threads here for some insight from some of you to see if something might be done to help this. We have had a couple of the 5.0V8 as well as 4.6V8 Xploders too, all got better fuel mileage than this thing.

Really sad thing with this 04 with the fuel mileage it gets, if it only ran like a raped ape I would not care so much about the fuel mileage. It runs ok and all, just not like I know it can or at least should for the amount of fuel it consumes. No where near what the window sticker said it would do either.

I would give anything if I could get this vehicle with the V6 powerstroke. Then maybe it would get better fuel mileage and would get up and run as well. Very dissappointed with this really nice Expy, and I am a die hard Ford guy. I also know if you have the interceptor map Ford has for the 4.6 and the 5.4's you not only get better performance, but the fuel mileage better also. That is why I say I know they can do better. We just traded a 4.6 Xploder for this Expy. that had the Interceptor map in it and I have already lived to regret not keeping it, other than we do like the bigger vehicle. We just can't get the Ford House to put the "I" map in this Expy...

I am taking this Expy. back to the Ford House soon as I can get my wife out of it long enough to get her a rental, to let them fix a few things on it LOL. One being to check things out on this motor. I just think its pretty bad when the 4.6 we traded for this would run a circle around this Expy and any 4.6 GT mustang for that matter since it had the "I" map in it and it always got 15-16 MPG in town and on the highway it would pull down 20-21 and on the reg. fuel... I want the 5.4 to do better than the 12 MPG around town we get. Tried running out of OD and in OD doesn't matter. Fuel mileage sucks on this vehicle and I know the motor can do better. Just got to figure what to do with it to get it out of the thing??? Thanks guys for letting me dump my bucket on this LOL. Its just too nice a vehicle to drop the ball at this point if you ask me. Ford has let this long time Ford owner down with this vehicle.
