5.4 L or 4.8 L
I have always been a Chevy man, Recent problems have me thinking. I am going to buy a '02 SC and am not sure which engine. I currently have a '99 silverado with a 5.3L that has plenty of power w/good torque. I don't haul a boat or trailer but I do live 8000ft up the side of mtn. I know the specs on ford's 2 engines and have test driven both but without actually driving under all conditions it is kinda hard to evaluate. Any suggestions?

its true you will want the 5.4lt in you're crew. most of the screws built have the 5.4,but not sure what %.if youre planning on installing a chip, for that extra grunt, discuss youre altitude w/ youre supplier, superchips will do some custom adjustments- im told.also, welcome to owning a f-150 , you will be happy. also dont let the manufactures hp rating trick you, chevy is always boasting more hp than ford ,up to 30 hp,for a comparable engine, why then when these trucks race, does the chev barely pull away? and in some cases the chev loses. ford only rates the 5.4 @ 260hp, there actually close to 280 on the dyno.ford needs a spread between the 5.4&v-10, so they rate the 5.4 low.

You wouldn't happen to have a copy of this dyno run would you? There is a guy in the 5.4 forum looking for dyno charts on the 5.4.
Also, 45.58 hp per liter for the V10.
You state 51.85 per liter on the 5.4 yet they share the same bore and stroke? (same rods and pistons, even)I know, I know, that's not all that determines HP but what do those 5.4 redline at anyway...
I would say Fords beat chebbys cause chebbys suck. Ford's got the torque. Plus chebbys suck. Did I mention how I feel about chebbys? Oh, I did? OK.

Definitely go with the 5.4L. In my opinion, even that is too small. Without any towing or load in the back, the truck still has to shift out of overdrive quite a bit at 70mph on slight inclines. Towing a load, it almost gets ridiculous how much into the throttle you have to be. Great running engine though. Spins up very smoothly and has a pretty smooth torque curve. Chevy seems to have hit the nail on the head as far as incorporating power, torque, and mileage in their Vortec line, but I like the design of the Triton much better. Far fewer parts, overhead cam, etc. Whatever you do, don't get the smaller motor. You'll constantly be discouraged at the lack of power.
Good luck,

Hello, My name is Colin and i'm not sure if i am using this properly. But i have a 97 f150 5.4l that the trouble lihgt keeps coming on. The OBD tells me it is running lean on both injector rails and it flags o2 sensor 1 on both right and left. my question is ---is it my o2 sensors telling it to run lean or is it runing lean flaging the o2 sensors. also is it common that 2 sensors would malfunction at the same time.
