hi,everyone.my 79 f150's engine died last week.I just bought a 91 injected 302 and AOD core to rebuild has anyone done the swap?I have a 5.0 Ho intake for It.Summit sells a FMS wiring harness and a maf conversion for it for about $650.Its not a pretty truck, just a work/farm truck.I was getting about 10 mpg but i figured with rising fuel prices F.I. and a AOD would get me close to 18 mpg.Over the long haul it would pay for itself [in a year or so ]anyway any one know anything about it?
I ran across a site one time where a guy had done a lot of swapping of EFI 302s into trucks; mostly Rangers. He had a lot of good info learned from firsthand experience. Can't think of the name of the site right now, but if I do, I'll post it. Brian G. NY
I don't think OD will help much if you run 3.25 gears and 32" tires. You can have a too low of RPM an it will be kicking out of OD all the time.
3.25 gears with OD
1000 42
1500 63
2000 84
2500 106
3000 125
3500 147
3.25 gears and OD comes out as 2.11 gears.
you can run 4.85 gears and AOD and come out with the same drive as 3.25 gears with no OD.
I think you would come out better with OD and 3.70-4.11 gears.
3.70 gears with OD
1000 37
1500 55
2000 74
2500 92
3000 111
3500 129
3.25 no OD
1000 28
1500 42
2000 56
2500 70
3000 84
3500 98
