I have an 86 F150 with a I6/300 engine. It has developed a problem with pinging under slight acceleration between 2k and 3k rpm.
The truck runs fine with constant throttle or hard acceleration. Adding 89 octane fuel did not seem to have any effect.
Does this motor have a knock sensor? If so, where is it located?Could it be running a little lean? EGR problem?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Sounds like it could be running a little lean. Your timing may be a little off. It might also be getting a weak spark. If that engine's fuel injected, I don't have a whole lot more to tell ya. My knowledge of those computer controlled beasts is pretty limited.
