How do I Syncronize Cycle Carbs......

I have rebuilt my carbs & installing new idle mixture screws in the morning.
All I have to do is syncronize them.

That is where I get lost. I have no idea how to syncronize them.

Hopefully someone here knows......

I don't have any special tools, just basic hand tools.

It is a 1980 Yamaha XS-650G with Mikuni 34mm carbs.

You'll really need the mercury sticks. They are pretty cheap at your local MC shop.

I found this article on the net that may help you Pre-synchronize them.

Monsta's tip is excellent. Pre-synchronizing is really important. If you have a tach on the bike you can also adjust the mixture screws. The screws might be under a plug so you can't get to them. I usually drill a hole and pry the plug out. Be careful drilling. When the drill bit goes thru the plug, if it hits the screw it will turn the screw in.

Mercury sticks cost 50 - 60 bucks or so, maybe some cheaper. Very useful if you do it yourself. Good luck with it.

I feel like a idiot right now. Trust me when I say I don't know much about bikes. But I'm wanting to learn.

I'm wanting to put the idle mixture screws in today but I don't know how exactly they go in. I didn't take the others out, someone else did so I have no comparison to work with.

This is what I have......

Idle mixture screw
O-Ring
Spring
Washer
Blind Plug

What order do they install in the carb?

Is there a groove in the screw that would hold the o-ring?

Go to mikuni.com.
Choose carburetors, then manuals on the left side list. Choose RS series to see a 34. Then scroll down and you will see a flat side 34 exploded view.

I got her figured out earlier today. Got the bike running smooth as a babies backside.

Took it out for awhile tonight while it was nice. Damn I love this southern wheather. The only downfall is that I found out the hard way the TN has a helmet law.
