I have a chance to buy a chrome bumper in excellant condition off a 89 XLT to replace the steel bumper on my 86. Will this fit my truck?

The bumpers do mount different. 86' style bolts directly to the front of the truck frame. The newer bumper has a bracket and a fixed bolt type pattern bracket that is used in conjunction. This bolt type pattern bracket bolts through the side of the frame and not directly through the front. You can bolt it up but it would not fit proper. There would be gaps up front at each end of the bumper. The 86' body is not straight across. It slants off to the back on each side. That is, the front is kind of curved, or beveled. The front bumper of the newer truck is straight across. You would actually have a better chance of using a bumper from a 92' to 96' truck. I have seen this application done and it turned out very good. Just some thoughts. Jake.
