Hi, I'd like to know the location of the fuel filter on my 85
F-150 302, AOD, 2V. It has dual tanks, my dad thinks that its under the carb. I think its along the frame rails. What would it be shaped like, and is the picture in the haynes manual accurate? And are there any brands to go with?
Thanks,
Nick

It should probably screw into the front of the carb. If so, it's a small, cylindrical filter about an inch long (Haynes Ford 1980-96 Pickup and Bronco illustration 23.7). The incoming fuel line is screwed in behind it. It may be in-line, but most of them that I've seen were screwed into the carb. An inline should be along the frame rail about 6"-1' back from the front of the bed.
As far as I can see, the info in the Haynes manual on page 1-22 and 1-23 looks accurate.
As for brands, I really haven't noticed a big difference in performance from the fuel filter. As long as it filters well and allows fuel to flow through, you really can't screw much up (unlike using a crappy oil filter). I just buy Champ-made filters (Deutz, STP, etc.) Can't beat stuff made in Edwards county!
