Question about idleing?

I was woundering is the reason for not wanting the 6.0 to idle is that because of the egr valve, So now that my egr wire fell off i really should not have to worry about that or is their a different reason?

I just had Ford replace my EGR and BPV because of the wierd idle and reverse "chugging" the also reflased it. Works great now but I did ask why the EGR and BPV went out with only 20k on it they gave me the standard answer of no answer.

I let my truck idle all the time. Such as when I run into the quicky mart or go back into the house. The longest I have let it idle was about 45 minutes. All of our ambulances and squads are powerstrokes both 7.3's and 6.0's and they idle sometimes for an hour or 2 on scenes and we have never had a problem related to extended idleing. When I am up in New Mexico and Colorado and it's cold (10F or below) I do flip my switch for the high idle (1200 rpm's) As of now I have had no problems due to extended idleing.

I noticed on my 6.0 that when I let it idle in the morning (take trash out, tool around in garage, etc) that it sits right arounf 700rpm. *Sometimes* it will rev up to about 900rpm just sitting there. I have not let it stay that way for longer then 30-45 seconds since I go over and tap the gas and it drops back to 700. This sound normal?

It is supposed to do that it is better for them to idle high that low, Some people have the idle rev switch on theirs so they can make it idle around 1200 rpm.

Awesome. I had a, very, minor concern in the back on my mind abut the idle going up. All this talk about surging and other problems has me a little gun shy on my first diesel. Will break 2k mile this weekend and I love this truck.
